Leading public and private sector organizations in India disclose that climate change is a material risk and are responding to the challenge. 127 Indian companies have committed to Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)- aligned goals, demonstrating commitment to net zero target setting. Recent industry reports reveals that there is also growing recognition among major Indian companies of adverse climate change impacts, with nearly 40% of India-headquartered companies conducting physical risk assessments.
A growing focus in corporate climate and energy transition disclosures on corporate policy engagement is evident across several emerging and developing economies, including India. Disclosure of climate policy engagement is now a core part of credible transition planning, helping ensure that policy conditions support low-carbon investment. This shift is reflected in the increasing inclusion of policy engagement across mandatory and voluntary disclosure frameworks, including India’s Business Responsibility and Sustainability Reporting, the International Sustainability Standards Board Sustainability Disclosure Standards, the Transition Plan Taskforce Disclosure Framework, and the International Organization for Standardization Net Zero Standard.
The webinar is open to all with a specific focus on Indian companies, financial institutions, and business NGOs seeking to understand the role that the private sector can play in driving science-aligned climate action in the country.
Corporate attendees will gain tools and resources to align their advocacy with scientific guidance on pathways to achieve their climate goals, as well as an understanding of priority policies in India. Investors are encouraged to attend to understand the potential role they can play in encouraging science-aligned advocacy from their investee companies. Banks will better understand how financing flows can help secure India’s net-zero future.
