Transparency on Climate Lobbying: What Should Companies Do?

An InfluenceMap Webinar

Investors and regulators are paying increasing attention to how companies engage with governments and regulators on climate policy, an indicator of broader corporate strategy and how a company is planning for the net-zero transition.

About This Webinar

In this webinar, we will hear from investors at the forefront of developing expectations in this area, including the recently re-launched Global Standard on Responsible Climate Lobbying. Significant progress has been made since its launch, with last year seeing a record number of the world’s largest emitting companies (the Climate Action 100+) producing enhanced disclosures in line with the Global Standard’s requirements.

Adam Gillett, Head of Sustainable Investment at Railpen, a UK institutional investor with 350,000 members, will:

  • Explain why comprehensive and credible corporate reporting in this area is material to investors, and;
  • Summarize the expectations of the Global Standard, with insights from working with companies to improve climate policy governance and disclosure frameworks.

InfluenceMap’s Advocacy Manager, Robert Magowan, will then explore requirements on policy engagement in emerging corporate sustainability reporting and transition plan regulations, and why comprehensive frameworks require policy engagement disclosures.

Pauline Bertrand, Policy Analyst at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), will share how governments can act to support increased transparency on policy engagement.

Finally, we will hear from James Fotherby, Senior Policy Officer at Aldersgate Group on climate transition plans, with a particular focus on the introduction of mandatory transition planning in countries like the UK. He will outline how companies can identify the policies they need from governments to achieve their transition plans and align their policy engagement with a 1.5°C degree future.

Why You Should Attend

This webinar will be of interest to investors, companies, civil society, sustainability standard-setters, and policymakers who want to better understand the case for incorporating disclosures on policy engagement into corporate reporting and net-zero transition plans. Attendees will gain insight on how regulatory developments and disclosure frameworks compare—including the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, International Sustainability Standards Board, Transition Plan Taskforce, and Global Standard on Responsible Climate Lobbying. The webinar will conclude with a panel discussion and interactive audience Q&A.
