Climate Policy and Competitiveness in Europe

Driving Science-Aligned Policy: An InfluenceMap Webinar Series

About the Webinar

According to the LobbyMap platform—the world's leading database on corporate and industry association climate policy engagement—corporate support for ambitious climate policy in Europe is on the rise. In this new webinar series, InfluenceMap will highlight the importance of science-aligned climate policy and positive corporate advocacy. Each webinar will feature a corporate actor, who will share insights on and challenges for positive corporate advocacy on climate policy.

In this first session, InfluenceMap’s Europe Program Manager, Venetia Roxburgh, will unpack how a group of industry associations is attempting to shape the EU climate policy agenda using a series of narratives that pit climate action against competitiveness, promote anti-regulation, and advocate vague policy approaches. She will compare these efforts with guidance by the International Panel on Climate Change on science-aligned policy and showcase LobbyMap's findings that corporate support for robust climate policy action is on the rise.

We will then hear from Miguel Muñoz Rodríguez, Head of Climate Policies and Alliances at Iberdrola, who will share insights on Iberdrola's science-aligned advocacy on EU climate policy, revealing ways to change industry narratives and highlighting the role that ambitious climate policy can play in delivering industrial competitiveness.

Next, Pieter Lemmens, Expert to the European Scientific Advisory Board on Climate Change (ESABCC), will offer an assessment of the current European climate policy agenda and underscore the importance of ambitious science-aligned policy in the region.

The webinar will close with remarks from Dominic Gogol, Director of Policy at the We Mean Business Coalition, who will share new research on corporate attitudes towards climate policy and the energy transition and highlight upcoming policy priorities.
